Three Months at SkillVertex Changed How I Ship Apps

My App Development internship at SkillVertex from January to March 2024 was the first time deadlines belonged to someone other than a professor. That shift sounds small, but it rewired how I build. I worked with Firebase Authentication and Firestore, stitching together mobile and web experiences that had to work for real users, not just a viva panel. Mornings were for debugging auth flows that failed silently; evenings were for reading docs until the cloud made sense. I learned that polished demos are not the same as stable products — and that empathy for the user starts when login fails gracefully. The internship also taught me collaboration: sharing branches, fixing integration issues, accepting feedback without treating it as criticism. I started thinking about state, offline behavior, and what happens when someone uses your app on a bad network. By the end of March, I was no longer a student who codes; I was someone who could deliver under constraints. SkillVertex did not give me a fancy title. It gave me friction — the useful kind. Every GenAI project I shipped later inherited that discipline: ship cleanly, document honestly, and own the failures in production, not just in localhost. When I later built Gradio apps and Firebase-style auth patterns in personal projects, I was replaying SkillVertex lessons without realizing it. Internships earn their place in a timeline when they change your defaults. Those three months made Firebase feel familiar instead of intimidating, which mattered when later projects needed quick auth prototypes.
